Traffic Generation
Just because you have a website, doesn't mean anyone will see it. If you want to build a list with new customers who are actively looking for
your products or service, you need to get visitors to your website every day. Generally, this means that you need to have your website
ranked highly in the search engines FOR THE SEARCH TERMS THAT YOUR PROSPECTS ARE LOOKING FOR.
In the early days of the internet, this was an easy task, you just threw up a website and got a high ranking due to very low competition.
Today, if you want to rank highly for a term like "cosmetic dentist" for example, you are going to need to throw a lot of money at it.
To give you actual figures - the predicted DAILY searches for the term "cosmetic dentist" across all search engines is 283. That
amount of daily traffic to your website would guarantee a highly profitable business. You would however be competing against 939,000 other
web pages.
FACT - unless you are on the first page of the search results i.e. in the top ten out of 939,000, and preferably in the top three, you will
get very little traffic. If your website languishes at position 3,276 for example, no one will ever see it, even though you are in the top
1%.
So as competition has increased, website owners have begun to target less competitive keywords in order to get traffic.
