Design Your Own Website
If you're working to a tight budget, or want total contol over your website from the start, you may want to consider doing it yourself.
Until recently, this was not an option for most people, as a) You'd need to buy software to build your sites, typically Microsoft Frontpage, or Macromedia Dreamweaver, and b) it takes a lot of time to learn to use the software.
Frontpage costs around £170, and Deamweaver, around £300.
Both of these programmes have a very steep learning curve, and for a novice are difficult to use.
Help is at Hand:
If you're prepared to put in the time and effort, you can now build your own websites, without having to learn HTML (programming language)
I routinely use two different types of software to do this:
In 2005 some British developers brought out website building software called XSitePro

This website, and many of my other websites are built using XSitePro
The software costs $197 or around £100 - that's a bargain !
This is THE software to use for building blogs. Blogs allow anyone to build quickly and easily updateable websites. The best blog platform is Wordpress - the problem with Wordpress is that it's not easy to customise for marketing, and the standard Wordpress blog looks awful. SemiologicPro is a Wordpress theme (which gives the blog it's "look") coupled with an extensively tested collection of plugins (plugins give a site it's functionallity)
Since discovering SemiologicPro in 2006, I have used it exclusively to build blogs - you can see an example here
This software costs £297 or around £150 - that's another bargain !!
